The J. M. Smucker Company plans to expand an Alabama plant after just more than a year in operation, according to reports.

The jelly company opened the $1.1 billion facility in suburban Birmingham to make its Uncrustables peanut butter and jelly sandwich products in late 2024. Company officials told AL.com that it is seeking approval from local authorities for a $27 million project at the site in McCalla, Alabama.

A company spokesperson told the publication that the proposal would include “the installation of new equipment and minor modifications” to support Smucker’s continuous improvement efforts at the facility.

Smucker’s reportedly aims to generate $1 billion in revenue for the Uncrustables brand by the end of 2026.

In addition to its jams, jellies and spreads, the Ohio-based company’s brands also include Folgers coffee, Hostess baked snacks and Milk-Bone dog treats.
