AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn University is opening a new $22 million structural engineering lab.

The school recently dedicated the Advanced Structural Engineering Laboratory, The Opelika-Auburn News reported.

The key component of the facility is the high bay laboratory, said the lab’s director, Justin Marshall. Testing can be done on structural components that would be used in structures such as bridges, buildings and stadiums, he said.

The 42,000-square-foot building also features a concrete materials research and testing laboratory, wind-testing capabilities that can replicate hurricane-level loads, and faculty and graduate student spaces.
