The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said that Thermos has issued a recalled of more than 8 million bottles and food jars after multiple consumers were seriously injured.

The recall, which affects about 5.8 million Stainless King Food Jars and about 2.3 million Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles, was blamed on perishable food or beverages being stored in the containers for an extended period of time. The company said that in those cases, the stopper can forcefully eject when opened.

Thermos said it has received 27 reports of consumers who were struck by a stopper, including complaints of impact and laceration injuries requiring medical attention. Three consumers suffered permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye.

Consumers should stop using the recalled Food Jars and Bottles immediately and contact Thermos to receive a free replacement pressure relief stopper or replacement Bottle, depending on the model.
