Automotive glass supplier Carlex Glass America announced that the company plans to expand its advanced manufacturing operations in Nashville. The company expects the nearly $55 million project to create 143 jobs and equip its campus with next-generation production lines.

Scheduled for completion in mid-2026, the expansion will enable Carlex to make larger precision-formed automotive glass.

Carlex's origins date back to 1958 as a Japanese business called Ube Soda Industry Co. In 1963, the company changed its name to Central Glass Co. and, in 1989, established Carlex Glass America as a joint venture with Ford Motor Company Group for the purpose of making and selling automotive glass. Carlex opened its first major glass facility in Vonore, Tennessee in 1991.

The business serves original equipment manufacturer customers across the automotive sector, providing products ranging from windshields, panoramic roofs, sidelights and backlights.
