The parent company of Irish brewer Guinness plans to shut down its lone U.S. brewery after less than five years in operation.
The Guinness Open Gate Brewery opened in a former Seagram’s bottling plant in Relay, Maryland, in 2018.

The facility returned the company’s production to the U.S. for the first time since the mid-1950s.
It made Baltimore Blonde, Over the Moon and other beers aside from the company’s iconic, Dublin-brewed stout.
Liquor giant Diageo, however, said that it has decided to shutter the brewery following a “careful” analysis of its supply footprint.
Company officials told the Baltimore Sun that they expect 97 layoffs to result from the closure.
The site’s tap room and restaurant — along with a small “innovation” brewery — will remain open.
A second Open Gate complex is set to open later this year in Chicago.
