Littering seems like an easy thing not to do but still, the problem persists. It’s right up there with not picking up your dog’s poop or not putting your shopping cart in the corral when you’re done. Still, some people need a little extra incentive to not throw garbage on the ground.
In the Swedish city of Malmö, that incentive now comes in the form of a sultry female voice dishing out sexually suggestive phrases whenever someone deposits trash in the receptacle.
According to CNN, the messages come from two garbage cans situated on a bridge. They offer encouragement for non-litterers like “Oh, right there, yes!", "Come back soon and do that again!" and "Mmm, a bit more to the left next time.”
While it’s definitely a new, more adult-themed manner of speaking for the garbage cans, the bins in Malmö have been talking for years now. The city bought 18 talking trash cans back in 2017 but now only two of them are still speaking. However, those two trash cans are doing all they can to raise awareness about littering in the city.
“The sentences are part of the campaign’s intention to get more people to talk about the dirtiest thing there is: littering. The stuff that ends up in our streets, squares, and sea,” said Marie Persson, who serves as section chief at the city’s roads department. “So please go ahead and feed the bins with more rubbish…yes, just like that.”
Maybe you don’t require any extra passionate pleas to avoid littering. But I’m sure you can agree that there’s nothing wrong with a little dirty talk if it gets people to clean up their acts.
