SurgiBox, a Massachusetts medical device startup focused on mobile surgery, has received two United States Patents for its core technology. The first U.S. patent involves an airflow technology for clean surgery and is a utility patent, while the second U.S. patent is a design patent on its user-friendly single-button automated Smart Control Module technology. SurgiBox's SurgiField product combines an inflatable sterile drape with an automated, battery-powered, portable HEPA air filtration system. The system is protected by patents in more than 20 countries.
The company said patents will aid SurgiBox in commercializing its technology in the United States.
"The U.S. patents will support our next generation of research and development, which will build upon the first SurgiField product. I am pleased to share that the next generation of product, which will support deployment of surgical fields in extreme environments, is under development with a strategic partner," said Atif Rakin, Chief Technology Officer of SurgiBox.
