College engineering students from across New York state are in Albany to demonstrate inventions they've designed to help people with disabilities perform their jobs.
The New York State Industries for the Disabled (NYSID) is holding its annual assistive technology symposium Wednesday at the Empire State Plaza.
Teams of students from private and public colleges will present their inventions during a competition for $30,000 in prize money to be split among students, their colleges and the rehabilitation organizations they're partnered with for the event.
Organizers say nine colleges and 11 NYSID member groups have produced 21 inventions for the competition.
The participating colleges are Alfred University, Cooper Union, CUNY City College, New York Institute of Technology, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Rochester, University at Albany and Union College.
