A European-Canadian maker of frozen meals for airlines and other services plans to establish its first U.S. plant in Kentucky, state and company officials announced Thursday.

The new, $37 million MarfoFMA Corp. facility in Covington will develop and produce meals specifically for airlines, according to the announcement from Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear’s office.

The project is expected to create 78 jobs.

MarfoFMA, owned by French agribusiness company Fleury Michon Group, was formed through FMG’s acquisitions of FMA, located in Quebec, in 2006 and Dutch company Marfo in 2019.

“This represents an important milestone for the family-owned Fleury Michon Group and its international catering business,” Arnaud Prévéraud, MarfoFMA’s area manager in North America, said in a statement. “Through this investment, we will be able to add additional capacity to our North American operations, which are currently served exclusively by FMA based in Quebec.”

Beshear said that the project was secured during a state trade mission to Europe last fall.
