Electronics industry trade show EDS on Monday announced it would cancel its 2020 expo due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
The EDS Leadership Summit, primarily backed by the Electronic Components Industry Association and the Electronic Representatives Association, was slated for May 11-15 in Las Vegas. Organizers said the spread of the virus, along with growing restrictions on travel and similar moves from other trade shows, prompted the decision.
Some conferences have offered virtual events in place of canceled shows, but EDS officials determined that would not be possible because of its “heavy networking and meeting focus.”
“Due to the uncertainty surrounding this pandemic, we believe this is the only way to ensure everyone’s safety,” officials said in a statement.
Individual registrants for the show will receive a refund, while companies and individual sponsors will be able to receive either a refund or a credit toward the 2021 show.
