BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — The University of Vermont has received $1 million in funding from a division of Google to support research related to open source software, the school said Monday.
Open source software can be shared and modified but UVM said the concept is about more than software.
“The goal of the UVM project is to deepen understanding of how people, teams and organizations thrive in technology-rich settings, especially in open-source projects and communities,” UVM said in a news release.
“Researching how people and teams interact in organizations is a powerful way to understand and advance the open source movement,” said assistant computer science professor Laurent Hébert-Dufresne, a principal investigator on the project.
