Geekplus Co. announced the deployment of its moving-type autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) at several Toyota Motor Corporation plants in Japan. The company said 436 of its its AMRs are currently operating across Toyota facilities, with operations scaled up to approximately 200 units per system.

Using sensors and map data, the moving-type AMRs support unmanned transport of goods across various stages, from inbound receiving to picking and processing areas. The robots can also reduce risks associated with the intersection of forklifts and towing vehicles and accumulate travel data within the plants. Routes can be easily configured and modified, allowing the system to adapt to changes in production lines or high-mix production.

According to Geekplus, the autonomous robots contribute to labor savings and productivity improvements as the manufacturing industry battles workforce shortages.

"It is a privilege to see our solutions contribute to productivity improvements while creating a better working environment for the truck drivers and on-site staff who support these operations," Geekplus Japan CEO Hirokazu Kato said.
