Honda Motor Co. selected Macrium Software, a provider of backup and recovery solutions for manufacturing and critical infrastructure, to strengthen the resilience of the automaker's U.S. manufacturing operations.
The collaboration will enable consistent recovery readiness across Honda’s critical production environments throughout the U.S. The company will leverage Macrium’s SiteBackup for centralized backup management and use the Technician’s License to protect air-gapped devices.
Other global automotive companies that rely on Macrium's solutions include Volvo and Husco.
News of the partnership came shortly after Macrium released its 2026 Benchmark Report, conducted in partnership with independent research agency NewtonX.
The report revealed that, despite widespread investment in backup and recovery technologies, manufacturers struggle to close a widening “recovery gap” that costs them upwards of $100,000 per hour in downtime. The report also revealed that 74% of manufacturers experience downtime at least once per year.
One of the report’s most contentious findings noted that while manufacturers are investing more in cybersecurity, ransomware attacks and other cyber threats only account for 5% of downtime. It attributed the vast majority of prolonged outages to network errors, configuration changes, issues with planned maintenance or failed backup and recovery systems.
