Scout Motors Selects North Carolina for New Corporate Headquarters

The site will accompany a planned manufacturing plant in South Carolina.

Scout Motors announced that it chose Charlotte, North Carolina as the location for its U.S. headquarters. The automaker plans to create create 1,200 jobs at the site over the next five years.

Following a multi-state evaluation process, the company will locate its headquarters within Commonwealth, a mixed-use development in Charlotte’s Plaza Midwood neighborhood. 

The Charlotte headquarters will serve as the home base for executive leadership, research and development, finance, IT, sales, marketing and other key corporate functions. Scout Motors expects initial staffing and office development to begin in 2026, with full headquarters operations scaling up in the coming years.

The development comes as North Carolina reported a 23% growth rate in the automotive sector since 2014.

A subsidiary of German automotive giant Volkswagen, Scout Motors seeks to revive the Scout vehicles brand, which gained fame in 1960s and 1970s when the vehicles were manufactured by International Harvester. Volkswagen acquired the Scout trademark in 2021 and announced plans to revive the brand through the founding of Scout Motors. 

Scout Motors, whose lineup includes electric and hybrid-powered vehicles, will build its vehicles at a manufacturing plant in Blythewood, South Carolina, with initial production slated for 2027. The company expects the facility to create over 4,000 jobs once it reaches full capacity.
