Airbus Lands Army Helicopter Order

The aerospace giant's Mississippi plant will produce 15 twin-engine helicopters.

The Airbus plant in Columbus, Miss., just received a $122.6 million order from the Army.

The contract calls for 15 UH-72 Lakota light utility helicopters. The twin-engine helicopter has a four-bladed main rotor. It's a militarized version of the EC145 rotorcraft.

The UH-72 is used in everything from border security and disaster response, to border security and reconnaissance.

Airbus expects to have the multi-mission helicopters completed by Aug. 31, 2022.
