Cummins to Close Tenn. Plant

The facility was responsible for rebuilding turbochargers.

Engine maker Cummins has announced that it will be shuttering its Memphis plant by the third quarter of 2021.

The facility’s work will be consolidated into an existing operation in Charleston, South Carolina.

A spokesperson says the Memphis plant is responsible for rebuilding turbochargers.

Unfortunately for the 300 impacted workers, turbochargers are lasting longer than they used to.

This is decreasing the overall demand for the products from the plant.

The company acknowledged the announcement brought “uncertainty” to the plant’s workers.

As such, Cummins plans to “provide significant support to minimize the impact on our employees, their families, our suppliers and the local communities.”
